Welcome
A little about Mr. Haynes
This is my fifth year working with the students and staff of H.J. MacDonald Middle School. I transferred from West Craven High School where I taught Career Management and Drafting & Design for four years. Before teaching at West Craven High School, I worked as a design engineer for Urethane Innovators in New Bern where I gained a lot of insight into the design and manufacturing process in a large manufacturing facility.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University. My degree is in Workforce Education, Training and Curriculum Development. I also hold an Associate’s of Science in Computer Systems Design and Analysis, and Data Base Design. I have taught at the university, community college, high school, and middle school level for a total of fourteen years. I also have eighteen years of experience in workforce education.
The curriculum for this program is designed to support and enhance the "Core" Math and Science classes in all grades through the use of technology, the scientific process, and the engineering design process, Language Arts through research and writing, teach the students 21st Century skills, and to prepare the students for entering the workforce or higher education. Just as in a normal classroom students will be engaged with both individual and team projects through educational materials delivered by the teacher and multimedia. The projects allow the students to learn through application, exploration, and experimentation. Students are expected to keep a journal of their daily work, thoughts in class, questions, and new things they have learned. This is above all else a student centered program which placeses the full responsibility of the learning process on the student.
Please review the Module Goals and Activities Descriptions pages under for details about what your student will be learning in each grade level. Make sure that you select the correct grade level to view. Each grade level has different materials.
